NeuroDivergent Couples Communication Course (NDC3) is a five-session course for neurodivergent couples, where one or both partners have characteristics of autism, ADHD, or other neuro-atypical conditions. The course, designed by Dr. Marsh, is appropriate for all gender identities and sexual orientations. It is not a group class; only one couple at a time meets individually with Dr. Marsh via telehealth to complete the five sessions, tailored to their unique needs. This is for couples who already have a good relationship, but realize that understanding more about how autism affects each of them could take their good relationship and make it great. Dr. Marsh was happily married to a man on the autism spectrum for more than a quarter century; she appreciates that a successful autist marriage is not only possible, but achievable, and she knows how.
Before and after each individual telehealth session you will receive information and activities via confidential email. The activities are designed to deepen your friendship, open avenues of communication, and strengthen your relationship. The Gottman Relationship Checkup is provided at the beginning of the course, and Dr. Marsh will go over your results at your first session. This will show you your strengths as a couple, and how these strengths may be harnessed to overcome challenges. Understanding how autism affects a relationship is vital, and this course will increase your understanding.
NDC3 includes the following 5 sessions:
- LET’S GO! (Collaboration)
- LET’S TALK! (Communication)
- LET’S AGREE TO DISAGREE! (Negotiation)
- LET’S PLAY! (Recreation)
- LET’S DREAM! (Inspiration)
NDC3 is not for couples whose relationship is in serious trouble or who are contemplating divorce; these couples should seek out a therapist who is trained and experienced in couples’ therapy, such as a Gottman trained therapist.
Concepts used in NDC3 course development are informed in part by the extensive research and writings of Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman. Dr. Marsh has successfully completed the Gottman Method Relationship Therapy Level One Clinical Training.
COST:
The tuition for NDC3 is $200.00 per session, totaling $1000.00 for the course. Sessions are typically scheduled once per month with course materials and homework to complete between sessions. The tuition includes the cost of the Gottman Relationship Check-Up, all materials, and follow-up email communication with Dr. Marsh as needed. In addition, couples receive a subscription to PIPS NEWS, Marsh’s online newsletter containing articles for NeuroDivergent Couples, and a copy of her book, Independent Living with Autism: Your Roadmap to Success.
